Objectives for 2024

The overarching objective is to help achieve a positive, lasting legacy ofr a sustainable rural community in which people can enjoy living and working, which is vibrant and distinctive but inn keeping with the character of its surroundings. At the same time, MSCC aims to protect local landscapes, heritage and biodiversity while meeting the challenges of climate and economic change.

Specific goals for Bettisfield

To have the 30mph speed limit enforced through the village:

A Vehicle Activated Sign (VAS) was purchased and installed to gather data which is shared with WCBC Highways Dept. and the Police to support the case for a reduction in the speed limit.

Village Gateways, made from recycled plastic have been installed to help to slow traffic.

To make the village as attractive as possible:

Planters were installed and are maintained by volunteers.

The Office Field is leased from the Canal and River Trust with a view to turning an unsightly overgrown field into a pleasant open space for the use and enjoyment of residents.

To oppose plans for development that was felt to adversely affect the drainage or the character of the village:

Development of the Nag’s Head and Cadney Lane sites were successfully opposed in planning consultations with WCBC and Welsh Planning Inspectorate.

To encourage the work of community volunteering and outside agencies that assist residents:

Support the defibrillator located at Bettisfield Chapel and link training for first responders is encouraged.

We continue to support the Community Agents initiative in collaboration with the Rainbow Centre.

To give moral and finacial support of local facilities and initiatives:

These include the church graveyard, the village hall, new play equipment at the village hall and ongoing work in the Fenns and Bettisfield Mosses.

Specific goals for Penley:

To provide safe play facilities for the young people of the village:

The playground at Penda’s Park offer a safe play environment for all young children.

Maelor South Community Council have and will continue to support the recently formed Penley Youth Club with a member of the council on the trustee board.

To maintain and improve road safety in Penley:

Street lighting is maintained on the side lanes.

A Vehicle Activated Sign on Ellesmere lane has been purchased and installed on Ellesmere Lane to calm traffic. Data is shared with WCBC Highways Dept. and the Police.

To improve the appearance of the village:

The planters on the A539 continue to be a colourful show, maintained by volunteers supported financially by MSCC.

The layby and its surroundings, as well as the area in front of the hospital are kept cut and tidy.

Litter bins have been placed in key public areas to help residents to reduce littering.

To give moral and financial support to local facilities and initiatives:

Penley Village Hall ad the church graveyard are given annual grants.

The red telephone box has been converted into a defibrillator unit.

Maelor South support the maintenance of the defibrillator at the Madras School.

Maelor South have installed and maintain a new defibrillator located at the junction of Ellesmere Lane and Tudor Drive.

Maelor South maintain the external defibrillator at the Rainbow Foundation.
